Summer School: Introduction to Fly Press
Led by SilverHub Studio Director, Lisa Arnott, you will learn how to use a traditional silversmithing fly press and hydraulic press to create small scale 2 dimensional objects which could be used within jewellery design and taking your jewellery design to a new level.

About the Class
Tutor: Lisa Arnott BA Hons, PGC, MFA Metalwork and Jewellery
Led by SilverHub Studio Director, Lisa Arnott, you will learn how to use a traditional silversmithing fly press and hydraulic press to create small scale 2 dimensional objects which could be used within jewellery design and taking your jewellery design to a new level. A combination of guided demonstrations and hands-on experience you will have the opportunity to texture through roll printing. You will learn how to cut your own silhouette from Perspex, cut quick multiples using pancake dies and with your textured metal (or bring the textures you created from the etching workshop!), learn how to solder and match a 2-sided form to create a 3d object. You will have time to create as well as make a series of samples for future jewellery projects
Lunch
Lunch is not included. Try one of the many cafes in Leith who provide a great lunch. On Sunday it is advisable to bring lunch with you
Materials
All tools, equipment and copper metal are provided in the fee and are part of the course. A small amount of silver is provided.
Knowledge Base
This course is for those students who wish to explore techniques beyond beginners. You should have some experience in soldering. If in doubt, please give us a call before you make a booking.
