Our community of makers extends to our neighbours at Abbeymount Studios and this week, we had a chance to chat with the brilliant Alex Gunn of Edinburgh Design School and Edinburgh Ceramic Workshop.

Have you ever wanted to drink your morning tea of coffee from a cup you make yourself? If the answer is yes, then Edinburgh Design School has a class for you!

"Edinburgh Design School is an independent design school based at Abbeymount Studios. Founded in 2012, we wanted to re-establish and promote Ceramics; which had been disappearing from mainstream, publicly funded school, university and college education."

EDS is a Scottish Qualifications Authority Approved Teaching centre dedicated to delivering a high-quality learning experience across a range of structured learning pathways - from beginners to intermediate and advanced classes. Students can attend a number of ceramics classes: from weekend ‘come-and-try’ classes, to structured Ceramics Foundation programmes that offer complete beginners the opportunity to progress to the next level.

"In addition to the teaching school we host the Edinburgh Ceramics Workshop. Founded in 2015, initially we were a practice space for students who had completed our courses. Now, the Edinburgh Ceramics Workshop is an open practice workshop open to anyone with a passion for working creatively with clay."

ECW is a fully resourced professional pottery studio. They offer a variety of membership options to suit practitioners whether you are at an intermediate level, a serious hobbyists or an emerging professional ceramicists.

"Pop in to say hello and to have a look round. There is always someone practicing in the studio who would love to show you round!"
