Summer School: Beginners to Metal Jewellery
This course is aimed at the beginner. We will encourage you to design and make jewellery in silver using traditional techniques. It will be a practical based course with demonstrations on a variety of skills and techniques. You will work on your own designs and at a pace appropriate.

This course is aimed at the beginner. We will encourage you to design and make jewellery in silver using traditional techniques. It will be a practical based course with demonstrations on a variety of skills and techniques. You will work on your own designs and at a pace appropriate to your skill level and experience.
Within this course you will learn how to:

Develop your own style as a jeweller.

Soldering, using a saw, piercing metal and annealing

Creating a unique surface through texturing and hammering

Using a roll mill

Simple chain making

Doming and Piercing

Polishing and finishing

Making jump rings

Creating earrings hooks

Simple brooch backs

Colouring metal through patination
Day1: You will make a variety of samples from copper metal which will reflect the skills you learn. We will cover developing your own style as a jeweller, health and safety, sawing, piercing, doming, annealing, creating textured surfaces, solder, jump rings, simple chain making and simple brooch backs.
Day 2: Your jewellery project.
Day 3: Conclusion of your project polishing and finishing your piece.
