Summer School: Beginners to Metal Jewellery

This course is aimed at the beginner. We will encourage you to design and make jewellery in silver using traditional techniques. It will be a practical based course with demonstrations on a variety of skills and techniques. You will work on your own designs and at a pace appropriate.

This course is aimed at the beginner. We will encourage you to design and make jewellery in silver using traditional techniques. It will be a practical based course with demonstrations on a variety of skills and techniques. You will work on your own designs and at a pace appropriate to your skill level and experience.

 

Within this course you will learn how to:

 

  • Develop your own style as a jeweller.

  • Soldering, using a saw, piercing metal and annealing

  • Creating a unique surface through texturing and hammering

  • Using a roll mill

  • Simple chain making

  • Doming and Piercing

  • Polishing and finishing

  • Making jump rings

  • Creating earrings hooks

  • Colouring metal through patination
