DAY TIME CLASSES

Our day time classes take place over an 8 to 10 week block and are open to all levels of experience. We believe that running mixed ability classes helps to promote sharing and a sense of community within the school. 

BEGINNERS

As a beginner, we will introduce you to the skills used in jewellery making. Over the course of each block, we will teach you new skills and enable you to make your own piece of jewellery with confidence.

Teaching will involve practical demonstrations and one-to-one guidance which will enable each student to develop their own projects and create their own unique piece of jewellery.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN 

Students will have the opportunity to learn:

  • annealing and pickling

  • soldering

  • sawing and filing

  • roll printing

  • piercing

  • patination

  • twisting wire

  • creating textures on sheet metal

  • making your own findings

  • making a chain

  • cold connections (riveting)

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT 

Students will learn to use specialist equipment including​:

 

  • forming tools such as mandrels, doming blocks and disc cutters

  • jewellers saw

  • pliers

  • pendant drills

  • hammers

  • hand files

  • rolling mill

  • soldering equipment and torches

INTERMIDATE 

Once you have completed our Beginners Course, you can move on to discover more techniques. The Intermediate  Course will enable students to explore the design process further.

 

During each block, we will continue to teach new skills which will involve practical demonstrations and one-to-one guidance from the tutor. 

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN 

Students will have the opportunity to learn:

• enamelling using vitreous enamel - including sgraffito, stencilling, plique a jour and basse taille
• enamelling using liquid enamel
• keum boo
• granulation
• stone setting (bezel, tube and flush)
• making a ring
• photo etching
• etching using various stop-out materials
• patination
• creating catches and lockets

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT 

Students will learn to use specialist equipment including​:

 

• enamelling kilns
• etching baths
• ring seizers and mandrels
• forming tools including mandrels, doming blocks and disc cutters
• jewellers saw
• pendant drills
• hammers and files
• rolling mill
• soldering equipment.

SilverHub Jewellery School and Studios offer specialist short courses during the summer to give you the opportunity to experiment and develop practical jewellery making skills.

Busy during the day? We run evening jewellery classes!

 

Open to all levels, we will provide support and guidance as you experiment and advance your jewellery design skills.

Starting in August 2020, our One Year course will provide you with the skills to form a completed portfolio of work. This course is ideal for those looking to apply for Higher Education or work independently as a designer.
