ABOUT OUR SUMMER SCHOOL
SilverHub Jewellery School offers specialist jewellery making short courses during the summer to give you the opportunity to experiment and develop practical jewellery making skills.
Running from 10.00am until 4.00pm, all of our courses are taught by professional jewellers and are limited to a maximum of 8 students to ensure we deliver a quality teaching experience.
Teaching, technical advice, course notes, copper metal and use of all the tools and equipment available in the studio are included in the fee.

SILVER JEWELLERY DESIGN COURSE WITH LISA ARNOTT BAHons, MFA
On this short course, you will be encouraged to design and make your own silver jewellery using traditional techniques. There will be practical demonstrations of various skills. These techniques can then be used to work on your designs at a pace appropriate to your skill level and experience.
This short course is aimed at the beginner and will take place over three days.
YOUNG METALSMITHS AND JEWELLERS
This four day course is for 15 -18 year olds who want to explore the world of jewellery and metal work.
Throughout this course you will be introduced to jewellery and metal work techniques that can be applied to produce a range of samples and finished pieces reflecting the week’s theme.
You will carry out visual research and from these initial drawings and collages, you will be supported and encouraged in transforming them into 3D pieces of jewellery and metal work.
ENAMELLING FOR BEGINNERS WITH JESSICA HOWARTH BAHons, MEd
Enamelling is the ancient technique of applying coloured glass on to metal and has been practiced as far back as the ancient Egyptians.
On this short course, you will learn a range of enamelling techniques including sieving enamelling using stencils, stamps and mark making. This will allow you to apply a palette of colours onto copper - resulting in striking patterns, beautiful colour combinations and exciting textures. These will form range of samples and a completed piece of jewellery.
This course is suitable for beginners and will take place over three days.
WITH PAUL SPURGEON
Paul Spurgeon is an award winning jewellery designer. On this short course, he will teach you the technique of wax carving. Students will be able to choose from a small selection of designs which will be carved in wax. At the end of the course, you will have a series of samples reflecting a variety of wax carving skills.
This introductory course will take place over three days.
SHEILA R MCDONALD MA RCA
Sheila R McDonald is a professional enameler and jeweller. On this short course, she will cover specific enamelling techniques: - including cloisonne, bassetaille and enamelling with foils. You will explore how colour, texture and design ideas can be interpreted in enamel.
At the end of the workshop, everyone will produce a small item of silver enamelled jewellery.
This intermediate level course will take place over three days.

We will teach you a range of jewellery making skills and provide you with one-to-one support from qualified tutors and contemporary designers.

Open to all levels, we will provide support and guidance as you experiment and advance your jewellery design skills.
Starting in August 2020, our One Year course will provide you with the skills to form a completed portfolio of design work. This course is ideal for those looking to apply for Higher Education or work independently as a contemporary designer.
