We have made it through four full weeks of hibernation!
We do hope that you are all doing okay as we all stay at home to keep ourselves, our loved ones and our NHS safe.
We have been using this unprecedented time to reflect on the journey we have been on with SilverHub. With this in mind, we thought it would be fitting to share with you the story of how we came to be.
Lisa in the first SilverHub Studios, Leith Walk (2010)
A Note from Lisa, Founding Director of SilverHub For me this moment in time reminds me of why and when I started SilverHub. After ten years of planning and being rejected by funders and banks, in the middle of a recession I opened SilverHub on the Friday 13th May 2010! Where there is a will there is a way!!!
As we approach being ten years old I can hardly believe we have come this far. My dream to create SilverHub into a resource hub to support jewellery designers at all levels of abilities is now a reality. We are a design organisation that provides design education, enabling jewellers to develop their own business and enable people, no matter their skill, ability, or background, to learn how to design and make.
Ten years ago I started with two students. Now we have day and evening classes, a foundation course and have undertaken projects in the community. Over the years we have worked with a whole host of charities to bring design and making to those who may find it impossible. We have worked with organisations including North Edinburgh Arts, Women’s Aid and CastleBrae Community High School to name a few. Over the years, we have also relocated and grown. Now located in the city centre, we are based within a beautiful Victorian school building managed by Out of the Blue Arts and Education Trust. The Abbeymount Studio complex is our final home and we are looking forward to being part of its growing contemporary design and craft community.
The essence of SilverHub has always been about empowerment. Empowering you, our students, building skills, confidence and enabling you to be your true creative self.
What is special about SilverHub is that we are a community. Alongside numerous small creative businesses, this is the toughest challenge SilverHub has experienced. However we are a team. We are resilient, determined, skilled, talented, creative and we WILL get through this, together, as an amazing community of makers.

Thank you all for your continued support. We can't wait to see you all at the bench designing and making jewellery soon.
